Falmouth Harbour in Cornwall

Falmouth Harbour in Cornwall is one of the largest and deepest natural harbours in the world. Known as the UK’s ‘Atlantic Gateway’, Falmouth has always been an important commercial port and today welcomes a wide range of commercial, cruise and leisure vessels.

Falmouth Harbour is a Trust Port, founded 150 years ago. Alongside regulatory and statutory duties, Falmouth Harbour provides pilotage services to visiting ships, 600 leisure moorings plus commercial ship moorings, a 60-berth yacht marina as well as a slipway for launch and recovery.

Like any organisation with a long history and complex responsibilities, Falmouth Harbour required a system upgrade to improve efficiency and effectiveness. “We needed a harbour management system where all our teams can work and communicate across one platform to support knowledge sharing, tasking and internal comms”, says Tim Jones, Assistant Harbour Master.

The quest for new software started with the requirement for a traceable and transparent asset maintenance system. A demo of Harbour Assist delivered against this requirement and highlighted additional benefits for customer communications and occupancy.

Falmouth Harbour teams will use Harbour Assist for managing the marina and moorings and for the planned maintenance of all its assets, including moorings, pontoons, workboats and pilot boats.

“With all the information in one place for everyone to view, wherever they are, it delivers a massive increase in efficiency for us”, explains Tim Jones, “but it is also important that our customers see the benefits too. We need to provide the 21st-century services that customers expect, like an online portal and remote payments”.
