Jones Boatyard

Established in 1946 as L.H. Jones & Son Ltd, this family business is in its third generation of ownership and is believed to be England’s oldest inland marina.

Offering peaceful moorings in natural surroundings, Jones Boatyard has friendly, knowledgeable staff, with the site providing extensive facilities, the largest chandlery in the area, brokerage, and secure moorings.

Perfectly located at the centre of the Great Ouse River network beside the picturesque town of St Ives, Jones Boatyard offer over 240 premium moorings for boats up to 35ft in length. Now in its third generation, Jones Boatyard needed to modernise their systems to meet the challenges of a growing business.

‘We recently expanded the marina with the opening of a new basin and we wanted to be able to better communicate and engage with our customers as well as to help streamline operations, site management, and minimise the seasonal pressure points of marina operation’ explains Sam Jones, Director, ‘We were looking for a cloud-based management system that had a modern user-friendly feel with good functionality for both the customer and the marina operator. The Harbour Assist team were very helpful and knowledgeable with a good understanding of modern marina management.’

After going live in January 2023, the team at Jones Boatyard have quickly got to grips with the new system, ‘The switch over was relatively straightforward and response times to all the initial teething problems associated with switching any piece of software were very quickly resolved. The training sessions were easy to follow and well presented. Once we developed a good understanding of the framework behind the software, we found we could intuitively work our way around quite quickly’, concludes Sam.
