Old naval base transformed into bustling marina
Port Edgar Marina
Situated along the Firth of Forth, nestled between the iconic Road and Rail Bridges as well as the more recent Queensferry Crossing, Port Edgar thrives as a lively marina, offering an ideal starting point for exploring the breathtaking landscapes, historic ports, and intriguing islands dotting the Firth and the East coast.
Originally serving as a naval base, Port Edgar has since transformed into a bustling marina, boasting a diverse array of tenants. These include a Land Rover workshop, a restaurant capable of accommodating 200 patrons, a sailing school, 320 berths, and a pier featuring an additional 200 meters of berthing space.
Since taking ownership of the site from Edinburgh Council in 2014, Russell and Cara, the owners, have made significant investments in the development of the land. With future expansion plans on the horizon, they recognised the need to modernise their systems in order to meet the demands of their growing business.
Russell Aitken, Managing Director said “Our business began as purely retail (chandlery & boat sales). When we took over the operation of the marina, we adapted the bespoke retail software we already had in place, but there were many limitations and it was clear we needed a system to help structure and grow the business. Following some research, we established Harbour Assist was the leading system available. The team at Harbour Assist were able to tailor the training programme to meet our specific requirements and this, along with the whole team being very approachable, has made the implementation journey relatively painless.”
Since going live in November, the team at Port Edgar have quickly found their way around Harbour Assist. “We have already found a number of efficiencies have been made with our office administration, we also expect to improve the occupancy rates of our marina assets throughout the year through using the system.” Russell added.
